Leighswood School

Leighswood’s vision for the curriculum is ‘Wonder, Investigate, Learn , Discover’.

A major part of this is their Forest School work. This year, Leighswood, have had the opportunity to build on an outstanding EYFS Forest School provision. They have been lucky enough to have wonderful support from the PTA who have funded the purchase of waterproofs and also their two new outdoor learning shelters. During the Autumn Term, Y1 and Y2 have developed their area with their new Forest School leader building a bird hide and a camp fire area as well as finding time to investigate the changing landscape when it rains. This term they have begun to develop their new KS2 Forest School area and turn this blank canvas into an interactive learning space with the children in Y3 and Y5 as well as the Forest Rangers after school. Y4 and Y6 will begin their sessions in the summer term. Throughout each session, all the children have the opportunity not only to put into practice communication skills and problem solving but also further develop their skills for life through their topic learning which are then transferred back into their learning in the classroom.
